Welcome to the ninth issue of the ENITO newsletter!

In this issue, we have a closer look at the installation of the ENITO Palm wood decking at the Meritus Mandarin Hotel in Singapore, Coconut Palm wooden benches at the NTU, and an interview with Mrs. Nadya Hutagalung on why she choose for ENITO.

The warmth of Coconut Timber

Wooden benches at the Nanyang Technological University

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore has upgraded its premises for the Athletes and team officials, whom will be staying at the NUS for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) coming this August, 2010

Part of the renovation included the ENITO Coconut Palm wooden benches and ENITO Pebble tiles.

Unique to the timber industry, ENiTo has become the most recognizable and respected name in Coconut timber. “Coconut timber is as versatile as any other wood species and benches and awnings are just some of the applications”.

A wooden bench provides not just the functional response to this amphi Theatre but a positive contribution as a focal point. Timber is favored not simply for its appearance but because it is relatively warm to the touch.

Mrs. Nadya Hutagalung ECO - Residence

Mrs. Nadya Hutagalung choice

Find out why Mrs. Nadya Hutagalung choose for the ENITO Coconut Palm wood flooring and decking for her new ECO residence, and her view on doing her part for sustainability

  • How did you get to know about ENITO?
A friend of mine suggested I take a look while I was visiting the BCA green building expo last year.
  • What makes you decide on ENITO Coconut Palm Wood Flooring and Decking for your residential?
I love the texture and tone of the wood and the very distinct character that it has. One of my guests said “your floor is sexy!” I tend to agree.
  • It is not a common product here so what was your point of decision, rather than using more common wood products?
I had been looking at various forms of flooring that would suit our eco home, from bamboo to compound wood. This one just stood out the most and I loved the rawness of the texture.
  • You choose not to finish the indoor flooring, could you explain why?
I prefer the tone of the wood when left unfinished. It was a risk, but one I was prepared to take. Now that my teenage son may be coming back to live with us, I may consider using a natural wax to protect the floors from all the wear and tear.
  • You are involved in various ‘green movements’ and promoting green environment. Would you like to tell us more about this?
I am the founder of Greenkampong.com and have been active in the scene for a few years now. I also developed a sustainable jewellery line called OSEL which uses recycled gold and pre-loved precious gems and diamonds. I have chosen to live in such a way because I feel responsible and almost guilty for the world that we are leaving for our children.
  • Last, do you have any message for our readers?
The most important thing you can do is to educate yourself to all issues related to climate change and sustainability.

We won’t have all the resources we have now for an indefinite future, so learn to look after what we have and find ways to give back to the planet.

Projects

Meritus Mandarin Hotel renovated with the ENITO Coconut Palm wooden decking

The recently renovated Meritus Mandarin Hotel in Orchard road, Singapore, installed the ENITO decking at the outdoor swimming pool area, cum bar.

The decking was installed in 2009 by Goodrich Global Pte Ltd, using a telescopic or screw jack pedestal manufactured from recycled plastics designed for floor, deck, paver, and beam and bearer support. Its use is results in reduced sound transmission, increased heat insulation, allow unsightly services to be concealed under an elevated platform and the elimination of efflorescence or algae formation on paved surfaces.
